Solaris' upcoming 2018 novel, The Quantum Magician by debut author Derek Künsken, is getting additional international attention. Analog Science Fiction and Fact Magazine, the oldest English-language science fiction magazine in the world, will be serializing The Quantum Magician for its fans starting in the January/February, 2018 issue, and running through to the May/June 2018 issue.
Analog includes a long list of contributors like Catherine Asaro, Harry Turtledove, Poul Anderson, Joe Haldeman and many other luminaries under its previous name, Astounding Magazine. Analog has also been the first publisher of Isaac Asimov's Foundation, Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game, Hal Clement's Mission of Gravity, George R. R. Martin's Dying of the Light, and Frank Herbert's Dune.
Editor-in-Chief Jon Oliver had this to say:
"The Quantum Magician is an exciting space adventure with science at its core. We're delighted to have worked with Trevor Quachri at Analog to bring Derek's debut novel to tens of thousands of additional readers."
Trevor Quachri commented:
"The Quantum Magician is set in the same universe as Derek's Persephone Descending, which appeared in our November, 2014 issue of Analog, as well as stories published in Analog's sister magazine, Asimov's Science Fiction. We love Derek's worldbuilding, and this hard SF heist story is a great fit for Analog."
The Quantum Magician will be published by Solaris in October 2018.
The Quantum Magician
by Derek Künsken
Belisarius is a quantum man, an engineered Homo quantus who fled the powerful insight of dangerously addictive quantum senses. He found a precarious balance as a con man, but when a client offers him untold wealth to move a squadron of warships across an enemy wormhole, he must embrace his birthright to even try. In fact, the job is so big that he'll need a crew built from all the new sub-branches of humanity. If he succeeds, he might trigger an interstellar war, but success might also point the way to the next step of Homo quantus evolution.
"With its audacious con job, scintillating future technology, and meditations on the nature of fractured humanity, The Quantum Magician is a pleasure to read." – Yoon Ha Lee
